The Three Lions Recall Bukayo Saka But Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden & Jack Grealish Are Omitted

Bukayo Saka in action

The Arsenal forward has scored a dozen goals in 44 caps for the national team.

The national side have included the Arsenal winger for next week's fixtures versus Wales and Latvia, however no room for Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden or Jack Grealish.

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka missed the previous qualifier wins over Andorra and Serbia with a hamstring injury.

The 24-year-old recently returned for his club and found the net in their victory over the Greek side midweek.

The England international comes in for Arsenal team-mate Noni Madueke, who is out of action till next month because of a knee problem.

England face the Welsh in a warm-up match at Wembley on Thursday before a qualifying match in Latvia on 14 October.

Should England triumph against Latvia, they will require a maximum of two points from their final two matches against Serbia and Albania in the next month to reach next summer's tournament in North America.

Leverkusen's Quansah replaces Newcastle United’s Livramento, who is out for up to eight weeks after sustaining a knee injury versus Arsenal recently.

Elliot Anderson and Spence, who received their first England call-ups last month, retain their places. Loftus-Cheek also keeps his spot, even with the recovery of Adam Wharton.

The attacker has featured in just one game for the manager since he became England manager, because of injury concerns.

Bellingham missed the last England international camp as he was rehabilitating after a shoulder operation and has managed just one start for Real Madrid after coming back to fitness.

The Manchester City player was left out from the coach’s last England squad following a dip in performance and has been unable to force his way back, despite a impressive beginning to the campaign with City.

Grealish also is excluded in spite of a resurgence on loan at Everton. He has not featured for England since October 2024.

Full England Squad

Goalkeepers: Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace), Pickford (Everton), James Trafford (Manchester City)

Backline: Dan Burn (Newcastle United), Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace), James (Chelsea), Ezri Konsa (Villa), Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Jarell Quansah (Leverkusen), Djed Spence (Spurs), John Stones (City)

Midfield: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Morgan Gibbs-White (Forest), Jordan Henderson (Brentford), Loftus-Cheek (AC Milan), Rice (the Gunners), Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Attackers: Bowen (West Ham), Eze (the Gunners), Gordon (Newcastle United), Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), Rashford (Barcelona), Saka (Arsenal), Ollie Watkins (Villa)

'Attention turns to excluded players'

Thomas Tuchel's new selection draws attention to the players the head coach has left out instead of the included names.

Jude Bellingham's omission may cause surprise but the coach understandably feels there is no need to bring back the Madrid midfielder.

City’s Foden and loanee Grealish have both excelled at the start of the season.

Those who Tuchel utilised in England's qualifying victories against Andorra and Serbia deserve the reward of continuity.

There will be disappointment that the Gunners’ Madueke is not included due to a fitness issue.

Anderson has settled well at England senior level.

The England boss is a fan of the attacker, especially, and also the City star.

One unexpected move, it is the absence of Palace’s Adam Wharton.

The star, naturally, will be required further down the line.
