The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Could Fix That

Each time a significant honors show draws close, there’s always a demand to include of new categories to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. So would board games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an essential concession for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category that year
  • Another creative title was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Just some logic titles scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Puzzle games are foundational for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. You could fill five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait generations.
