'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the dramatic dying seconds of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game wrapped up with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles following the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a long-range strike from outside the box, and his teammate promptly slammed home the deflection before sprinting toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result completed an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 deep into the latter period. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Premier League Giants

That win booked a upcoming match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith came close against at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who began the game centrally before moving to right wing-back after they changed formation. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who complimented the way Orient played positively.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and basic skills, they can just perform consistently," the midfielder notes. "It appears that they always find their target and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can believe you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on at all times of the game. It demands a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He became a favorite as a crowd pleaser across multiple campaigns at Leyton Orient and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At Orient he linked up again with the coach, who earlier gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at Doncaster from Manchester United. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he departed his boyhood club.

Learning Curve

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into professional soccer. I think a lot of players would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it feels like the ball is moved without real physicality. You see few tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that development for both domestically and internationally, excelling for the Green and White Army, who could still reach the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has been selected in the past five games, including both legs games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's previous international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he manipulates the ball and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This represents quite the ride for the kid from the neighborhood in Glengormley, just outside the capital, who grew up watching his dad, his father, also a central player, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for the Red Devils came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of bitter cold. "That proved to be a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Leaving United

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged 16? "This turned out fairly simple, because I reached the point where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the senior squad. I'm very appreciative for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I had to take a different path, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm steadily climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the club's training ground but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a learner's exam, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Prior to relocating to the local area, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's nicknamed fun bus, a team vehicle driven by club employees, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"It's myself Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, the midfielder – a former passenger used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to socialize with the teammates but I'm hoping to be the following person out of the minibus and driving. Franco likes to pull a few pranks; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with fans on public transport after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
